Are modular homes the same as manufactured homes?

NO. Manufactured homes, or mobile homes are far different then custom modular homes. \Manufactured homes are constructed to a different building standard. This standard, the Federal Construction Safety Standards Act (HUD/CODE), unlike conventional building codes, requires manufactured homes to be constructed on a non-removable steel chassis. Many communities have restrictions on where manufactured homes can be located.

Modular homes are custom stick built homes that are built in a factory controlled setting. There is almost no limit to what you can build as a modular home, from basic capes and colonials to modular mansions, are all possible using modular building systems.
